Newbury Park is a community located in the Western portion of the City of Thousand Oaks. It is situated in the East County area of Ventura County within the Conejo Valley. Bordering Newbury Park is the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, with main entrances at the northern edge of the park at Rancho Sierra Vista and Satwiwa.

Newbury Park is named after Egbert Starr Newbury, one of the three largest Conejo landowners of his time, who owned thousands of acres of land in the Conejo Valley in the 1870s. John Edwards, Howard Mills and Egbert Starr Newbury bought Rancho El Conejo land. Newbury moved to California with his wife for health reasons in 1871. He became the first postmaster in the Conejo Valley in 1875. The post office was near their house which is the current location of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.

Newbury Park, along with Thousand Oaks, was part of a master planned community by the Janss Investment Company. Along with parts of Westlake Village, Newbury Park became part of the City of Thousand Oaks. The community was formerly controlled by Ventura County, but after a majority vote, all became part of Thousand Oaks except Casa Conejo.

The Conejo Valley is one of the most abundant areas in the country, and Newbury Park has the highest median home values in all of Ventura County (around $730,000). Money Magazine ranked Newbury Park as one of the top 100 places to live in the country. Newbury Park has the 11th highest per capita income and the 4th highest median household income in the nation (compared to other cities with a population of 50,000 or more).

Newbury Park has had an increasing population because of biotechnology firms and technology corporations of the area, such as Amgen (world headquarters) and Baxter, as well as numerous tech businesses. Also located in the community are global headquarters of BMW and DesignworksUSA, as well as offices which offer high-tech jobs such as Bank of America, Amgen, General Dynamics Corporation, Baxter International, Jafra Cosmetics, Skyworks Solutions and J.D. Power and Associates. It is also where Bank of America, Verizon Wireless, Volkswagen, Verizon, Audi, WellPoint and General Motors manage regional offices.
Although some of the companies are not located in the Newbury Park section of the city, many of the Newbury Park residents are employed through these companies. The Ventura County Fire Department and Ventura County Sheriffs serve the Newbury Park area. The Conejo Valley Unified School District serves Newbury Park. There is also an Adult Rehabilitation Centers, Grant R. Brimhall Library, Newbury Park Branch Library, Bobbie’s School of Performing Arts, California Cartwheel Center, Evangelical Free Church of the Conejo Valley, Stage Coach Inn Museum, and Mary Health of the Sick Hospital, to name a few. Newbury Park has Amtrak, Metrolink, Greyhound Lines, and Gold Coast Transit.

Newbury Park has a climate which is warm to hot, dry summers and mild to cool, wet winters, most commonly known as Mediterranean Climate or Dry-Summer Subtropical zone climate.
