Being a home buyer can be intimidating and a huge life experience. Sometimes home buyers do not know how to start and we hope the information and resources we provide are helpful. From mortgages, to insurance, local school information, and finding the right place we will do our best to give you the tools you need to move ahead. One of the primary steps to becoming a home buyer is to get your finances together and be sure your credit is as good as it can be. Once pre-approved for a mortgage by a lender and understanding the mortgage payment that you can comfortably afford, the home hunting process begins.
You may have already outlined your goals and have a good idea on the type of home you want. By the time you reach your real estate agent’s office, you are halfway to home ownership. However, the time it takes to find that perfect house depends entirely on the buyer. Some buyers are pickier than others and take longer to find their home. Hopefully with the help of your Realtor your search will be narrowed down to the homes that fit your parameters, thus, reducing your time walking through countless numbers of properties.
When you are taking tours of houses your Realtor should supply you with some information and maybe a picture of each house you tour. Taking your own notes will help you determine your likes and dislikes and help you make your final decision. It is also strongly suggested to take a tour of the surrounding neighborhood and community to see if it has everything you desire. This may include parks, walking paths, horse paths, convenience stores, schools, public transportation, shopping centers, natural topography, etc.
After touring several homes you will probably instinctively know which one or two homes you would like to buy. At this point, your agent should call the listing agents making sure these homes are still available to purchase. If everything checks out okay your Realtor will help you submit an offer, walking you through the escrow and mortgage process, and ensure your move in is smooth.
